Colorful ways to spruce up your home for summer

We’re spending more time at home than ever right now, making this the perfect time to make subtle changes to your living space! Sometimes moving items around or swapping out greenery can make your home feel fresh and updated.

Our home is an extension of my personal style - light and airy with pops of color and mixed patterns throughout. I’m often asked how to infuse color into your space, and summer is the perfect time to try! I’m sharing my favorite ways to easily brighten up my home for summer:

Bright Blooms

I love fresh flowers year-round, but I always find the selection at the grocery store during summer months to be the best! I like a variety of colors and textures when I’m choosing blooms, but my basic guide is: 1-2 statement flowers, a bundle of greenery, and 1-2 bunches of wildflower-like filler. This will help give the arrangement the fresh-picked from the garden feel! Plus, you can use the leftover blooms to put flowers in your bathroom or on your desk if you’re working from home right now.

Don’t forget to change the water every couple of days and keep flowers out of direct sunlight so they last longer!

Fruit Inspired Accents

I love practical décor, especially in the kitchen. Personally, I keep a lot of the counter space open for cooking and meal prep, but there are a few items I display on the counter for easy access. I use wooden serving boards to display snacks, fruit, and cheese – plus, they double as decor when they’re not in use. I swap out a seasonal board a few times a year, and this pineapple board is my summer staple!

We keep lemons on hand to add to our water, tea, and even use the peels to keep the disposal fresh. Instead of storing the fruit away in the fridge, place it in a pretty bowl on the counter. It adds a pop of color and will encourage you to use them more often!

Colorful Coffee Table Books

I love decorating with coffee table books! It’s a great way to add interest, create a little height, and bring personality to a space. I swap out some of the books I typically keep year-round with some beach-inspired books for the warmer months. Tropical getaways may be on hold for now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring your favorite destinations into your home!

Place a box of Scotties new Triple Soft Tissues on top of your coffee table books for added convenience. Sneezing and wiping your nose with a tissue instead of your hand helps reduce spreading germs. Plus, the box seamlessly works with existing decor.

Tropical Greens

Swapping out faux florals for palm fonds is an easy way to add a tropical feel to any space. I have a few vases in our entryway and living room that I like to rotate flowers and green depending on the season.

Seasonal Soap & Candles

Washing our hands is a high priority right now, so I like to swap out the soap scents with the seasons. I opt for a lot of citrus candles and soaps during the summer months! The seasonal options out right now are typically bright and cheerful.

Use a water-resistant tray to create a little handwashing station near your sink as I did here. Add a bottle of anti-bacterial soap, hand sanitizer, Scotties Triple Soft Tissues, and lotion for dry hands. The tray helps keeps everything together and looks nice next to our kitchen sink.
