Designer-Approved Ways to Prep Your Home for Winter 2020
Though winter is usually a time for staying in and getting cozy, it’s safe to say that we’ll be spending even more time on the home front this winter – but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing!
From infusing new décor ideas that keep your home feeling fresh to health-minded additions to your home, we can all have a healthy, happy holiday season this year.

Add Tissues and Hand Sanitizer to Every Room
Well before the pandemic, I partnered with Scotties to design my exclusive Scotties x Genevieve Gorder Collection to create tissue boxes worthy of being highlighted in your home. Over the decades, we have created so many vehicles to hide our tissue boxes, so I thought, why not just make them beautiful so we’d all want to display them?
With that in mind, having a box of tissues in every room is so important – now more than ever. With cold and flu season coming up, and in the midst of a pandemic, having tissues at the ready wherever you are is key.
Be it on your desk as you work from home, in your children’s rooms as they log into their learning platforms, or in the entry way as you enter after running errands, you’ll enjoy the designs as much as you will the convenience! Pair your box with hand sanitizer that’s at least 60% alcohol to kill germs and stay healthy.

Bring the Outdoors In
It’s known that having plants around our home can boost our moods, productivity and overall wellbeing. Particularly in these times, it’s important to infuse elements of the earth into our homes as we stay indoors a bit more often. Try adding a plant or greenery around the holidays into your space – I know you’ll feel the benefits just like I do!
Looking for another way to highlight the beauty of nature inside? Birds are good luck in the home. I place ornamental and bird visuals liberally around any home to welcome in positivity and joy. That’s why I love this blue bird – its vibrant colors are eye-catching but still such a sweet addition to any room.

Black, White and the Roaring Twenties
Be bold – take this season as an opportunity to jazz up your home décor style with something you haven’t tried before.
One of my favorite eras to evoke in my designs is the roaring 20’s in America. Between the vintage glamour, the emphasis on light and sparkle and the clean lines of black and white designs – it's got everything.
Black and white can flex with any color palette you may have. Update your space with touches of monochromatic designs like the Moorish tiles on this box. They’re timeless and some of the most beautiful geometric efforts we have in design. While this pattern is ancient, it works in any modern setting as well.
The Scotties x Genevieve Gorder Collection is now available for a limited time in participating retailers, including Walmart, Dollar Tree and Dollar General, Publix, Hannaford, Market Basket, Price Chopper, Weis, Jewel-Osco, Tops, select Bed Bath and Beyond locations as well as military commissaries and various regional retailers.
